Looks like the Landmaster's the only thing that hurts it.
PeppyHeadshotAssault

The Aparoid Ship, was an exceptionally powerful Aparoid that led the invasion force at the Katina Outpost, that serves as the enemy force commanding boss of "Mission 2. Investigate Base On Katina: Frontier Base Battle", as Fox believed it to be the leader.

Appearance[]

It is a quadrupedal, gargantuan U.F.O.-shaped mothership, which stand at the height of 175 feet tall, and is armed with various firepower ranging from lasers to homing missiles. Benefiting the mysterious nature of the alien race, the Ship was able to materialize into the area from a honeycomb energy field. Its gray head is usually small and have distinctive purple visor-like eye and have two angular crests protruding from each side of its "forehead" with two seemly large structures protruding from each side of its head nearly above its eye. The small gray spire is located on top of the Aparoid that is capable of popping up its purple luminescent orb, which is its weak point.

In the game[]

After clearing the final Aparoid hatcher, the massive Aparoid Ship descended into the base's courtyard. Although the alien Ship was an impressive and intimidating sight to behold, the Star Fox team's telepath Krystal was able to sense a valuable Core Memory essential for understanding the Aparoid threat onboard the leading Ship, which gave the team even more reason to fight back.

Strategy[]

Fortunately, the boss battle will trigger some power-ups to appear on the western side of the outpost to help Fox stay in the game, but these pickups will spawn in Bronze and Silver difficulties only. Unfortunately, the Aparoid Ship boasts an impressive defensive hull, because if Fox tries to shoot the Aparoid ship outside the Landmaster, nothing will work, triggering Peppy to advise that only the Landmaster's cannon can harm it, so Fox should ideally stay inside the Landmaster at all times and roll to avoid the Aparoid ship's projectile attacks. If Fox's Landmaster blows up, he should run far away from the Ship's missile range until Peppy can send down a replacement tank.

To get at its weak spot, a purple orb on top of the ship's main body, Fox will have to bring the ship to its knees so he can hover to its upper surface, by hitting the orb on its underside several times. When the ship has dropped to its knees, it will be stunned long enough for Fox to have a chance to hover up onto its upper surface and point the cannon at the ship's small spire, which will occasionally pop up to reveal the ship's vulnerable orb. Shooting the spire and its orb from a healthy distance should whittle down the boss's shield meters, but when the upper surface starts to glow, the Ship is sending a missile strike at Fox's position, so hitting the hover thrusters to rise above the danger zone. While waiting for the orb to appear, charging up a fully powered cannon blast to greet it then hitting it with repeated shots can help deplete the boss meter even more to fell the beast. Fox should always be careful when staying too close to the Ship's top spire or his tank will be in danger of being caught in its own blast radius.

Aftermath[]

Making his move to claim the complete and undamaged Core Memory, Fox McCloud noticed that the distress signal they were sent to investigate had stopped transmitting. Without warning, the SOS signal was revealed to be planted by the Star Fox team's traitor, Pigma Dengar, who used a built-in tractor beam on his ship to claim the Core like a prize to sell for a high price. But what Pigma stole from the fallen Aparoid ship only ensured his own doom later on, when he himself was assimilated into an Aparoid later on.
