Astropolis was a floating space station base that appears in Star Fox 2. It sat within the atmosphere of the Lylat System's sun, and was built by Andross as his supreme stronghold. There, which he launched a massive attack on Corneria with several Canon Destroyer Space Cruisers as well as planetary missiles which where launched from other planets in the System. It never officially appeared in any other game in the Star Fox series.
Astropolis' only appearance in a game to date is in Star Fox 2. It is featured as the last level in the near-final version, and as the location of the player's fight with Andross. It is only accessible after every other seized location in the game has been cleared.
Description & History
Ultimately, the Star Fox team pushed Andross' forces back until at last, after defeating Wolf, they and the rest of the Cornerian Forces were able to launch an offensive on Astropolis. During the attack, one or two of the Star Fox members dived deep into the interior and after making their way through the corridors found and confronted Andross' core brain. When the core brain's automatic defenses failed, Andross himself took control, fleeing into a large chamber in the very center of Astropolis. There he was defeated by Star Fox and the entire base began to explode as the core brain was destroyed yet again. The Star Fox pilot fled the space station and escaped just as it exploded behind them, the remainder of the base and the forces remaining in it, and possibly Andross himself fell into the sun as Star Fox returned to Corneria.
Andross's base has been on Venom in every released game (although he brings himself back to life over Dinosaur Planet in Star Fox Adventures and was briefly revived as a clone on Titania in the prequel manga "Farewell, Beloved Falco").
In its depiction in Star Fox 2, when the Star Fox team are attacking Astropolis, the beginning of the music is identical to Venom's highway from the Level 2 route in the previous game.
