General Scales has unleashed the full force of the planet's dark energy, mutating Dragon Rock into a desolate wasteland. He has captured a number of Dinosaurs and is planning to change them into powerful killing machines! It's rumoured that one such creature already exists! This final SpellStone should bring Dinosaur Planet back together. Slippy out...
—Slippy Toad's briefing

Dragon Rock is one of the four sacred SpellStone lands of vital importance to the existence of Dinosaur Planet. After General Scales unleash the full force of the planet's dark matter, it caused Dragon Rock to become a barren, desolate wasteland, not unlike Venom. It was also converted into a prison compound for captured inhabitants, which Scales planned to transform into bio-engineered, weaponised soldiers for his conquest. Akin to Moon Mountain Pass, some of the more outlandish dangers of Dinosaur Planet resided on Dragon Rock.

Overview[]

A desolate wasteland world created by mutations through General Scales releasing the full force of Dinosaur Planet's dark energy, Dragon Rock is a generally hostile environment where the aggressive FireCrawlers roam wild and local, and Spore Pods attack anything that gets too close. The land was also augmented with highly advanced technologies compared to other Tribes, including a large central base to house the fourth and final SpellStone here, which was guarded by the terrible cyborg Drakor, as well as four electrical stream towers to generate the power for main tower's shielding. Scales also deployed powerful Sentry robots to guard the plain, making it dangerous for any trespassers to cross this land without detection. General Scales imprisoned most of Dragon Rock's dinosaurs, in which; according to Slippy Toad, he planed to experiment and mutate them, which will turn them into assassins.

Scales also used this land as a prison camp for three particular Dinosaurs that tried to fight against him, but he left their ThornTail friend behind on the main Planet as he was the GateKeeper. At the request of the ThornTail GateKeeper, Fox flew to Dragon Rock to bring his last SpellStone back to the Force Point Temple and rescue his captured Dinosaur comrades. Starting with the EarthWalker, Fox rode on the back of the mighty Dinosaur, searching for the hidden shield generators within the walls and pillars throughout the land and destroying them, as the EarthWalker knew that the HighTop would be an all too easy target for their firepower. With the shields disabled, Fox was able to destroy the defenceless Sentinels with the Fire Blaster, making the HighTop's travel across the plain easier. The rescued titan returned the favor by helping Fox to set the CloudRunner free. Fox discovered that this was the same CloudRunner who befriended Krystal when she started her quest. The newly freed CloudRunner stretched his wings by taking Fox to the center tower, where he could face Drakor and reclaim the final SpellStone.

Although Fox was successful in returning the SpellStones, he learned that the planet required the Krazoa Spirits to ensure Dinosaur Planet's reconstruction. After Andross was defeated in outer space, the six Krazoa Spirits were able to resume their protection of the planet and returned Dragon Rock to the planets main surface. It can be assumed Dragon Rock's desolate state was eventually undone and the land returned to normal after the planet fully healed.

Comparable[]

In appearance and overall nature, Dragon Rock more than slightly resembles Venom in that both are desolate wastelands, full of mutated dangers. Dragon Rock also displays other advanced technologies previously used by Andross, including Shield Generators, electrified force fields and great steel constructed buildings, something unseen anywhere else on Dinosaur Planet.

It is generally known that Andross is a famous creator of many variants of bioweapons which extends throughout the entire Star Fox series, hence it would not be far fetched to assume that he was able to influence Scales with ideas and newfound bio-engineering projects, like Drakor– the cybernetic dragon, or even the Galdon.

StarFox 1993
It is suggested that Venom (at least in the original 1993 game's manual) was not always the barren wasteland it is typically known as, just like how Dragon Rock became its witnessed state of being after General Scales made it so.

In order to travel to Dragon Rock, Fox flys down a long narrow tunnel from outer space, full of mechanised traps and tight spaces, similar to the various maze-like tunnels of Andross's Palace during "Star Fox 64".

The scenario where Fox is required to fly on the CloudRunner's back and destroy the four energy spires to enter the tower in the center, is similar to the Bolse Mission in "Star Fox 64", in which Fox flew his Arwing in circles to take out the six energy spires to turn off the shield in order to destroy the core tower.

Mission 9. repeats the strategy of destroying shield generator towers to turn off a powerful shield protecting the central goal-space.

The entrance to Drakor's lair is made by Fox falling down a deep vertical shaft, akin to reaching Andross in "Star Fox 64" and latter repeated in "Assault", during Mission 10.

Trivia[]

  • The FireCrawler tribe may belong to this land as there are more of them here than anywhere else on Sauria.
  • This is the hardest land to reach from space, as it requires the collection of ten Gold Rings to open the GateKeeper's ForceField and missing just one will result in instant failure.
  • This is one of the few areas in the game that has no SharpClaw foot soldiers (unless one counts Drakor, however, his actual species was never identified in the final game).
  • In Dinosaur Planet, Dragon Rock played a slightly more major role in the game: It acted as Drakor's headquarters (who acted as the one who instigated General Scales' war against the dinosaurs as part of his vendetta against the Krazoa Spirits), with Drakor during a pivotal moment in the game ambushing Sabre/Fox as well as Prince Tricky as they were about to deliver the SpellStone to the Force Point and, after revealing Sabre/Fox's role in unknowingly slaying the Kamerian Heart (which effectively acted as the Dinosaur's god), proceeded to kill Sabre/Fox by shooting him, and then dumping him and Tricky into the lava pool below, requiring Krystal to go back in time to undo that event.
