StarFox 1993
All games in the Star Fox series feature Slippy Toad as a supporting or playable character, as well as making appearances in spin-off media.

Slippy's debut in the Star Fox series is in "Star Fox". Slippy tended to get himself chased by the enemy more often than the other two pilots, and had a croaking verbal tic that was removed in later appearances.

Instruction booklet description[]

While Slippy may seem to be timid and passive at times, he always keeps a positive mind set about things. The scrapes he gets himself in may add some comic relief to the dangerous situations you find yourself in during your mission.

SLIPPY TOAD

  • SEX: MEN
  • AGE: 19
  • HEIGHT: 113cm
  • WEIGHT: 46kg

Slippy's role in "Star Fox 64" is the same as it was in "Star Fox", except this time he is more valuable, as he can analyze the shields of all bosses except Andross, but only if he is on the battlefield to do so. Slippy is still the least-skilled pilot of the team and is often chased down by enemy ships, but it is necessary to keep his ship functioning to make fighting bosses more precise. Also in "Star Fox 64", Slippy's minor rivalry with Falco is shown, as the two make snide remarks about each other. It is also revealed in the game that Slippy is a rival to Andrew Oikonny, as the two target each other in the occasional dogfights. Slippy's transmission and base color is green. Slippy is a playable character in V.S mode by connecting a controller to the fourth socket.

Official Star Fox 64 Site descriptions[]

The excitable amphibian member of the Star Fox Team, Slippy may seem like a hyper-doofus, but he has excellent mechanical know-how. Slippy specialized in engineering at the Cornerian Academy, and learned a lot from his father, Beltino Toad, who is Director of Engineering at Space Dynamics Co. Ltd. As a member of the Star Fox Team, Slippy has invented a wide variety of gadgets and vehicles.

Strategy Guide description[]

Slippy Toad brings enthusiasm and mechanical know-how to the team. As a flyer, though, he leaves something to be desired. In fact, he seems to get into trouble whenever you let him out of your sight. But it's better to have him along, in spite of his failings.

Talk about upbeat and positive! Slippy can take the worst of situations and make them seem like they are not so bad. The diminutive toad has the keen knack of being able to analyze an enemy's weaknesses. He is usually correct in his assessments, too. Slippy is not the best pilot in the Lylat System. He frequently takes questionable attack routes and often winds up getting himself into trouble. However, Fox knows that when he and the team run into a menacing creature, he would rather have Slippy along than now.

In "Adventures", Slippy served the same helpful role he did in the past games. In official artwork, Slippy is shown holding a screwdriver, but he doesn't use it in the game. During the events of Adventures, Slippy, Peppy, and ROB 64 all reside in the Great Fox and aid Fox from there. When Fox contacts Slippy, he can give Fox useful advice and hints in different areas, which would help Fox find his way through riddles and mazes. Slippy also airdrops Fox's Hi-Def Display Device but it requires having to be bought back from the ThornTail Store after the ShopKeeper found it first. When Fox is taken prisoner at CloudRunner Fortress, Slippy creates the SharpClaw Disguise for him to use, which is the only ability that wasn't found in a Staff Cavern or doesn't need the use of Krystal's Staff. At the end of the game, Slippy and Fox hi-five to demonstrate their long standing friendship since their childhood.

Instruction Booklet description[]

Recently Slippy Toad has been devoting a lot of time to Cornerian Weapons R&D, though he continues to work with his good friends in the Star Fox team. His upgrades to ROB and the Arwing prove invaluable.

Slippy appeared again in "Star Fox: Assault". His part in this game is the same as before, and it is revealed that Slippy is one of the head engineers for the Star Fox team's arsenal of craft, including the Landmaster and the Arwing. The game also introduces his father, Beltino Toad, who Slippy himself is surprised to see. Slippy's rivalry with Falco seems to have mellowed out, but the two still make unnecessary comments about each other as they converse. Besides his missions in an Arwing, he also once participated alongside Fox in on-foot combat at the Sargasso Space Zone, where he held his own alongside Fox in fighting off the Ruffians. Slippy was so upset to see Peppy and ROB's sacrifices that he burst into tears, but was overwhelmed to see their surprise survival and erratically piloted his Arwing from being overjoyed.

Instruction booklet description[]

Multiplayer[]

Slippy is available as a playable character in Assault's multiplayer mode. He has high stamina (second best behind Wolf) and the best Landmaster skill of all characters in the game, but poor speed. He also has the second best jump and blaster charging speed, behind Peppy, but runs slightly faster.

Slippy mostly excels in ground combat. He has good survivability thanks to his high health, and his slightly more compact shape in comparison to other characters as well as his high jumping ability accentuate his defenses in close quarters. He is hampered slightly by his poor running speed, however, which somewhat mitigates his advantages in the Landmaster tank since he takes longer to find and acquire one, especially on larger maps like Titania. Slippy's high Landmaster skill means the targeting reticle is larger for him than it is for other characters, letting him more easily lock on to opponents. His poor Arwing skill, which is tied with Wolf and Krystal for worst in the game, puts him at a disadvantage on aircraft-only maps. Lastly, Slippy's offense is accentuated by his special ability which allows his blaster to charge twice as fast as normal.

When Slippy wins a match, he exclaims "I won!" and performs the swim dance.

In "Star Fox Command", Slippy is still a helpful character as he was in the previous games. He now pilots his own ship, the Bullfrog, and has found a love interest of his own.

In one scenario, he ended up brainwashed by Octoman, forcing the team to contend with him while at the same time stopping Octoman, though his brainwashing wore off after Octoman was defeated, with him being unaware of what happened. Slippy then joined the team to make up for what he unwittingly did.

In one of the game's endings, Slippy forms a family with Amanda and his eldest son becomes a member of the Star Fox team under the leadership of Marcus McCloud. In a future time period, Slippy tells him numerous grandchildren of the Star Fox team's legacy. In a different ending, Slippy marries Amanda and has numerous children, one of which joins the new Star Fox.

Instruction booklet description[]

Fox's closest friend on the Star Fox team. He's a better mechanic than he is a pilot, and he comes up with all kinds of weapons for the team to use.
—Star Fox Command; Instruction Booklet

Ending 7 - Slippy's Resolve[]

After Slippy and Amanda defeat the Anglars, he decides that he no longer wants to be a pilot and leaves the Star Fox team to start a family and settle down with Amanda. The two get married and have numerous children. After years, Slippy becomes old, but his visiting grandchildren love to hear him tell them stories about his adventures with his wing mates.

Slippy plays a dominate role in the spin-off game, "Star Fox: Guard", where his uncle Grippy Toad, the president of Corneria Precious Metals Ltd. has hired him to protect his company against hostile robots using complex tower defence gameplay.

Slippy appears in "Star Fox 2" as one of six playable characters (the four males plus females Miyu and Fay). The game was originally scrapped in mid-1995 to make way for the then-upcoming Nintendo 64, and ROMs of the game in sundry stages of development were later leaked on the Internet. However, the final version of the game was pre-installed on the Super NES Classic Edition in 2017.

In the first three Super Smash Bros. games, one of Fox's alternate costumes is based on Slippy's outfit from Star Fox 64. Falco also has an alternate costume resembling Slippy's outfit from Star Fox 64 in Melee and Brawl. In Smash 4, one of Fox's alternate costumes is based on Slippy's outfit from Star Fox: Assault.

Super Smash Bros Melee logo

Slippy made a brief cameo in Super Smash Bros. Melee, assisting Fox in an Event Match titled respectively Slippy's Invention. He created a cloaking device for Fox and Falco to use during that event. Although Slippy is the supposed inventor of the Cloaking Device, its game listings in Trophy mode don't show that it has any relation to the Star Fox series. Slippy can also appear if the character (as either Fox or Falco) does a secret taunt (done by alternatively tapping the left and right buttons on the control pad) on the Corneria or Venom stages.

Slippy Toad is the mechanical genius behind most of the Star Fox team's new weapons and technology, and just lately he's been spending the bulk of his time in Research and Development. He's also a competent pilot, but his enthusiasm tends to outweigh his technical flight skills. He and Fox have been friends ever since their school days.

Slippy also makes appearances as a trophy, stickers and in several Smash Taunts in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. He, along with Krystal, Peppy Hare, Panther Caroso, and Leon Powalski, with Fox McCloud, Falco Lombardi and Wolf O'Donnell, occasionally, will make a few comments in a secret taunt (unlike in Melee, it's done by doing the "down" taunt for about one frame of time) in the Lylat Cruise stage (he can appear again in the Past Stage Corneria as well. It is revealed in one of the messages that Slippy can relate to Leon.

Slippy Toad - Brawl Trophy
A top-notch mechanic with less-than-stellar battle skills. Respected for his talent, he joins the Star Fox team and his mechanical genius in everything from vehicle maintenance to weapons development. Slippy often holds the team back with his clumsiness but makes up for it with his likeable personality and morale-boosting presence.

  • Star Fox / Starwing (SNES)
  • Star Fox Assault (GCN)

Note: The Trophy erroneously implies that he's poor at combat. While he isn't good with an Arwing, Assault reveals that he is decent at on-foot combat, and he is the one character to excel at driving a Landmaster in the same game's multiplayer mode.

Snake's Codec[]

On the Metal Gear stage Shadow Moses Island, whenever Snake tries to gather information on Falco (the person he attempted to call was implied from the frequency to be Colonel Roy Campbell), Slippy will intercept and tell Snake about Falco instead. In this conversation, it is revealed that Slippy designed the reflector and blaster weapons Fox and Falco use in the games. This also makes Slippy the only Star Fox character, and the only character overall, to be interacted in all secret taunts.

  • Snake: Whaa--! Who is this? What are you, some kind of frog?!
  • Slippy: Easy there, buddy! Just thought I'd hop on the wireless and give you a holler. Don't get mad!
  • Snake: Hacked right into my channel, huh...
  • Slippy: But I'm not there to mess nothin' up. Don't worry.
  • Snake: (groans) ...
  • Slippy: Just so ya know, Falco uses a Blaster and Reflector that I designed, just like Fox does. But Falco will kick his Reflector and send it flyin' around. Just showin' off, if you ask me.
  • Snake: No reason a weapon can't have more than one use. In fact, I'd say it's versatility shows how well you designed it.
  • Slippy: Hey, maybe so! I feel all fuzzy now! Thanks, Snake!
  • Snake: Maybe next time we meet, you can design me a weapon...

Logo EN - Super Smash Bros

Slippy appears in both versions of the fourth Super Smash Bros. title as a trophy. His artwork is captured from Star Fox 64 3D, while the pose is taken from the 3DS's menu screen. It implies that his nervous behaviour only annoys the Star Wolf team, which is incorrect, for his clumsiness has shown to annoy his entire team, even Fox. During the new Smash Taunts, Slippy calls the fighters "our new friends" but prays they don't step on his Arwing's G-Diffuser.
