The Sniper Rifle is a powerful default weapon available in Star Fox: Assault. It is a high precision weapon equipped with a double magniscope for zooming, and armed with long range laser bullets that kill most enemies in one precise shot. In appearance the weapon resembles the real world L115 sniper rifle.

Usage[]

SNIPER RIFLE:
The sniper rifle will pick off any foe (but not vehicles) in a single shot. You can activate its zoom scope to see great distances

The Pilot can equip a Sniper Rifle after picking up one on the ground and selecting it with left or right on the C-Stick. Unlike other weapons, the Sniper Rifle user must press the X button to begin scoping with this weapon. Once scoped, press the L button to zoom in or out, A to fire, and X to cease scoping. The shots are thin, very powerful laser blasts, but shooting leaves the Pilot vulnerable for a good moment.

In the game's Single Player Mode, the Sniper Rifle is first acquired during "Mission 3: Sargasso Space Zone; Hostilliters Revisited", where it will be available to find in selected spawning points and even downed enemies will drop some. IThe Rifle can effectively take out every enemy type within the hideout, including the large combat robot suits that can repel basic Blaster and Machine Gun bullets.

In "Mission 7: Corneria; War Comes Home", the Sniper Rifle proves itself to be the essential weapon when Fox is required to hunt down every Radar jammer, hiding behind the many buildings and smoke fumes in the vast Corneria City, waiting for them to open their weakspot "eye". The Mission Start even begins with a spawned Sniper Rifle ready for picking up. However, Fox must first open the scope mode to cause the Radar jammers to open their hatch, leaving Fox vulnerable due to the Rifles slow fire rate.

In "Mission 9: Aparoid Homeworld; Breaching The Defenses", the Sniper Rifle is one of the few weapons capable of taking a Shield Generator down in a single shot on the Homeworld surface, and can clear away the large Electric Spheres that guard entrances to the buildings.

Versus Mode[]

Sniper Rifle: A useful weapon but its low rate of fire leaves its user vulnerable to attack.
—Sniper rifle description on the official site.

In Versus Mode, the Sniper Rifle is a default weapon best used for what it's name implies it to be, a traditional and professional sniper role. In VS matches, the Sniper Rifle can take out all Pilots instantly except for Wolf O'Donnell thanks to his higher health check. The rifle is best deployed in an area suited for Pilots, with large sightlines and no cover. This weapon is very useful against vehicles such as the Landmaster or Arwing because of the high amount of damage it does. But when firing a shot, the blast does give away positions, so it should be used accurately before cover is blown. Though zooming in onto a target after scoping provides more accuracy in contrast to just firing the weapon, it decreases the overall field of vision, making it difficult to hit the enemy if they have dodged. It should also be noted that while scoping with this weapon, Barrier Spheres do not activate automatically, regardless of handicap settings.

The unlockable Demon Sniper is a much tougher version of the Sniper Rifle, except it has even less ammo with it, but it compensates by being able to pick off vehicles as well Pilots in a single shot.
