The Lylat system is a planetary system in the center of an, as far as we know, unnamed galaxy. It consist of two suns, three sectors of gas, and ten planets, the fourth one, Corneria, being the most habitable and the origin planet of the Cornerians, the race that inhabits most of the system.

[edit] History
[edit] Period of Peace
During this time, the planet Corneria was at the center of power, and the military had hardly even started to branch out into space, with Lylat being, for the most part, peaceful. No need was seen for a large military. At this point, General Pepper was the head of the Cornerian Army, and Andross was a scientist in the Cornerian government. Andross soon took an interest dangerous biological experiments as well as in the planet Venom, and began attempting experiments to terraform the planet into something more hospitable. However, these experiments were deemed too dangerous, and after not heeding repeated orders to stop, General Pepper was forced to banish Andross there, expecting a quick death on the hostile planet, but not thinking that the ape would slowly slip into insanity as he did.
[edit] The Lylat Wars
Five years after Andross's banishment to Venom, General Pepper began to notice strange happenings on and around the toxic green planet. Growing steadily concerned, he sent out a mercenary flight squadron known as the Star Fox Team to investigate. Star Fox was comprised of three members: James McCloud, widely considered to be one of the best pilots in the system at that time, Peppy Hare, an old friend of James, and Pigma Dengar, who was only in it for the money. Unknown to Peppy and James, Andross had made a deal with Pigma: Once they arrived at Venom, Pigma would betray the group, and leave them open for attack. Peppy barely escaped, and James was supposedly sucked into a black hole made by Andross's experiments, was teleported to a unknown location, and was never seen again, in what was known as the first battle of Venom. Peppy returned to Corneria and told James' son Fox McCloud about his father's fate.
An unprecedented time after, when James' son was 18, Andross had spent the years since his banishment building an army. At first it was to take revenge for his banishment, but now he had decided that the current government should be taken down, and rebuilt as an empire, himself as the emperor. He unleashed his armies across the Lylat system, eventually reaching Corneria. This prompted General Pepper to call in the new Star Fox Team, this time composing of James' own son, Fox McCloud, a cocky young hotshot pilot named Falco Lombardi, a technical frog genius named Slippy Toad, and the old friend and ally of James, Peppy Hare. They started from Corneria and liberated a city known to us only as Corneria City from Andross's forces, moving through the rest of the Lylat system until reaching Venom. After fighting with Star Wolf, Fox traveled down into Andross's chamber, alone. There he found an incredibly mutated Andross, whom he began to fight. After tearing through his outer skin, Andross revealed his true from: a giant brain. After a tough battle, Fox finally defeated Andross. However, Andross had prepared for this, and detonated a self-destruct system upon his defeat. It was then that Fox saw an image of his father. Following it, Fox was safely led out of the maze-like chute, and watched as the vision of his father disappeared as soon as he reached the surface. The Star Fox Team returned to Corneria, where they were commended for their bravery. Thus, the Lylat Wars had come to end at last, but the effects of the war would be long lasting.
[edit] The Titania Research base incident
Four years after the Lylat Wars, The Starfox Team was patrolling the Lylat System, which was at the time very quite, at least for mercenaries, when Katt Monroe sent an SOS signal directed to Star Fox. Falco immediately reacted to the SOS and left for Katt's aid without the team's consent.
Later, the remaining Star Fox members went to a just constructed research base on Titania, the first base to be built on the planet. Falco manages to save Katt and the rest of her gang, the Hot-rodders, from another Goras (called Golas in the Japanese book). The Goras retreated the battle. Meanwhile, the Star Fox Team (save for Falco) are speaking with the head of the research institute, Captain Shears. Apparently, they were trying to replicate Andross's research for the benefit of the Lylat System, but some remainders of Andross's empire are attacking the base.
Meanwhile, Katt informed Falco that Shears was after them, and he was trying to bring about an unnamed disaster. They caught up on some things (and Katt reveals that she has found someone that she likes other than Falco.).
Shears pinpointed the Andross rebel's ship (which turned out to be the Hot-Rodders ship.) The Starfox Team dueled with it, and Falco forced Fox into a dogfight. The result was a draw (though Falco's ship was in critical condition and crash landed in the desert.). Fox explained that Falco was apparently aligned with Andross, and then Peppy and the rest of the team started to question Shear's motives, and send Slippy out to investigate. Unfortunately, Shears suspected that this might be the case, and had dispatched Goras to capture Slippy (mirroring a similar incident to the Titania rescue mission). While discussing what they knew, they were suddenly hailed by "the Androssian rebels", who turn out to be the Hot Rodders. Katt was upset at Fox for shooting down Falco, and Fox was surprised that Katt was commanding "Andross's" ship, until she revealed that they weren't working for Andross at all. Fox then learns that the Hot-rodders had acquired leaked data about the project, and they then analyzed the contents of the project's files. ROB then completed the analysis and revealed that the basis of the project was not about creating weapons based off of Andross's research, but in fact reviving Andross himself. ROB also informed them that Slippy had been captured by the research base.
They then conducted a full frontal assault on the base (the Hot-Rodders were supposed to create a distraction for Fox to get into the base and rescue Slippy, and if possible, halt Andross's revival.). Fox managed to bust Slippy out of the prison cell, but they had to make a hasty escape from the guards, ironically hiding in the room containing Andross's cloning container. Shears then revealed himself and prepared to hunt down Fox McCloud, showing his insanity. Slippy tried to halt the project before it was complete, but it only resulted in Andross growing at a rapid rate. Meanwhile the Goras attacked the Hot-Rodders. Katt contemplated trying to take it out by herself (after reflecting Falco's last words to her after quitting the Hot-Rodders.), but Falco, in his newly repaired Arwing, managed to save them, and put Goras out of commission.
Fox then dueled with Shears until he managed to disarm Shear's Rapier. Shears then tried to escape on his Titanian river boar, but ended up getting crushed by the newly raised Andross. Fox was able to stop Andross by throwing his sword at Andross's eye, thus blinding him in his right eye, and then Fox finished off Andross by using the Landmaster's solar bomb and detonating it in Andross, destroying the research institute, and nearly killing Fox and Slippy in the process.
Falco decides to go it alone for a while, and tells Fox to tell Katt to leave the Hot-Rodders and settle down for a change.
[edit] Saurian Crisis
The Saurian crisis was an isolated incident on the planet Sauria, taking place a little more then eight years after the Lylat Wars (and 4 years after the events on Titania) during a small gap of relative peace in the Lylat system. Those living in the Lylat system were concerned in the well-being of the planet, but were more distracted by other issues such as pirates to really pay much attention to Sauria. The planet had been experiencing a tribal war, due to the villainous SharpClaw, led by General Scales. General Pepper dispatched the Star Fox Team to investigate what exactly was happening there and soon discovered the planet had been splitting apart from the inside.
Objects known as SpellStones were part of the main source of the planet's energy in keeping it together. The other main source was the race known as the Krazoa. This disinboded race held magical abilities that General Scales hoped to get his hands on, but what he did not know was that he was merely a puppet being used by the thought-to-be dead Andross.
Fox's perilous journey through the Dinosaur Planet led him to General Scales, who was commanded by Andross to release the last Krazoa spirit and be used by Krystal to revive himself. After a great battle Fox defeated Andross, and Sauria had been saved.
[edit] Aparoid Invasion
More then a year after the end of the crisis on Sauria, an insect-like race called the Aparoids invaded the Lylat system. Eventually, they made a colossal assault on Corneria, taking the planet by surprise and leaving it in ruins. With the help of the Star Fox team, researchers on board a base known as the Orbital Gate managed to create a program that would make all Aparoids self-destruct. The catch was that it had to be fired at the Aparoid queen in the core of the Aparoid Homeworld.
A small assault fleet was assembled (including the Great Fox), and they used the gate to travel through an unknown distance to the Aparoid Homeworld. The entrance to the core was protected by the shield, and Star Fox was deployed to take them out. Specifically, Fox was the one who went planet side to take out the Aparoid hatchers.
It was not enough, for shortly after, energy from the core formed an almost unbreakable shield. Thanks to the heroic and sacrificial efforts of Peppy, the Star Fox team managed to get through and deliver the self-destruct program to the queen, thus ending the war.
