- "Enemy shield analyzed!"
- —Slippy Toad
Slippy Toad (スリッピー・トード Surippī Tōdo) is a childhood friend of Fox, and has been flying alongside him for several years. Slippy serves as the inventor and mechanic of the team. His inventions, from the Arwing, Landmaster, and Blue Marine to the Reflector and Blaster, have helped the Star Fox team prevail over the enemy, making Slippy a major contribution to the Star Fox team's success. Due to Falco Lombardi only making a cameo appearance in Star Fox Adventures and Peppy's retirement from active duty in Star Fox: Assault, Slippy can be said to be the second most prominent character in the series, after Fox McCloud himself.

Biography
Slippy Toad is the son of Beltino Toad, the Research Director for the Cornerian Defense Force. Both Slippy and Beltino invented and constructed many inventions for the team, including the Blue Marine. In the gap between Star Fox 64 and Star Fox Adventures, both the Toads, Slippy and Beltino, briefly designed aircraft for Cornerian Defense Force. He is hinted as being less athletic than the rest of the team. Example are found in the ending of Star Fox 64, when the team runs a long distance, where Slippy slowly falls behind, and in the introduction of the same game, Slippy is seen falling behind his wingmates. Also, in Star Fox Assault, in the scene where everybody jumps into their ships for launching, Slippy ends up falling head first into his ship. Slippy played a major role in the Lylat Wars as a new (and barely experienced) pilot of the Arwing. His main role was to give information about the area (in a similar way that Peppy does) and to analyze the shield strength of bosses. Slippy's inexperience and lack of talent while flying get him into trouble more often than any other team member, for which Falco taunts him mercilessly. During dogfights between Star Fox and Star Wolf, Slippy shares a rivalry with Andrew Oikonny, although there has never been anything to suggest the two characters have a history, and there is little dialogue between them.
Lylat Wars
He was first rescued by Fox on Corneria from an enemy fighter, and helped against the battle with Granga and the Attack Carrier. He then leads fighters to Fox at Sector Y and helps destroy the Shogun Warriors and the Shogun. In Meteo he helps destroy the Rock Crusher, and gets into the portal to Katina. There he expresses that "It's hard to tell the good guys from the bad!" He helps take down most of the fighters. In Solar he proudly says the arwings can take temperatures up to 9000 degrees. At Fichina he dogfights with Andrew of Star Wolf. While battling Spyborg on Sector X he tries to take it on himself, but gets slapped to Titania. There he gets captured by the Goras. He is rescued by Fox and gives him it's shield rating. On Aquas he gives Fox tips about The Blue Marine, and expresses disgust at the pollution. He is then congratulated by Peppy and is criticized by Falco on the Blue Marine. At Zoness he says that it looks awful, and also helps destroy the searchlights. At Sector Z he helps destroy a couple of missles. On Macbeth, he asks Fox how the Landmaster is treating him, and destroys some fighters. At Bolse he informs Fox that the fighters are shielded and again fights Andrew of Star Wolf. At Area 6 he helps fend off some fighters and gives information on the Gorgon's weakness. On Venom he tries to stay clear of the temple where Golemech is, but goes in. At Andross's palace, he fights Andrew again, and protests against Fox going in but to no avail. After Fox comes out they head to Corneria to be congratulated by General Pepper. They then head to the Great Fox and fly of into the sunset.
Titania Incident
Slippy was sent to Captain Shear's base to investigate anything about him, after the Star Fox team learned some facts (like Falco apparently siding with the Androssian rebels) that do not make any sense. Unfortunately, Captain Shears realized that Star Fox failed to stop the Hot Rodders (the group he claimed were Androssian rebels) so he dispatched the Golas to kidnap anyone who tried to come near the base. Slippy was also uncomfortable with going to the base, as he has bad memories of the last time he was on Titania. He was later saved by Fox and tried to halt Andross's revival, but only succeeded in quickening it.
Saurian Crisis
Slippy also helped out in the Saurian crisis. Instead of flying, he had stuck with giving Fox information and helpful hints about his surroundings. During the long 8 years between the Lylat Wars and the incident on Sauria, Slippy withdrew from active flight duty so he could spend more time working on his developments, one such design was a Sharp Claw disguise which enabled Fox McCloud to fool the Sharpclaw and access various areas. When Andross was defeated again and Falco Lombardi returned, Slippy happily recited: "The Star Fox Team is back together again.", showing his appreciation of Falco. Slippy also gladly accepted Krystal into the team as well.
Aparoid Invasion
Slippy played a role in the Aparoid Invasion similar to his role in the Lylat Wars.
Battle of Fortuna
Slippy and the rest of Star Fox participted in the battle against Andrew Oikonnys Rebellion over the planet Fortuna. Arriving just in time to save the Cornerian fleet from destruction, Slippy and the team got into their Arwings, and battled against Oikonnys fleet. Slippy got tailed easily, but was saved by Fox, and was teased by Falco who said "You haven't changed a bit Frog-boy". During the battle, Slippy was able to find Oikonny's stealth squadron via radar, giving Fox a heads up on the incoming enemy. They were eventually forced to go planet side, since Oikonny had made a hasty retreat there. At the battle, they reached Oikonny's base, but discovered they were waiting for them. Slippy was trailed, and once again rescued by Fox. They finally caught up to Oikonny, who transformed his ship to a weaker look-alike of Andross. Slippy was able to download his shields, and the team easily defeated him. Oikonny however, taunted them, before being shot down by an unknown assaliant. The shooter turned out to be a bug-like alien, that was proved hostile by it's attempt at killing Krystal. After defeating it, Slippy spotted more of these creatures and warned Fox, but not before Fox got something from the dead Apariod that Peppy knew was important.
Battle of Katina
It was soon revealed to Slippy and the team that the creature was an "Aparoid" by General Pepper. It was then revealed to Slippy's chagrin that his father, Beltino Toad, was the reasearch director. Beltino told them how 17 years ago, a sole Apariod destroyed a fleet, leaving few survivors. The thing Fox found, was revealed to Slippy and the team by Beltino as a Core Memory. General Pepper then told them that a distress signal is coming form the Katina outpost, but are unable to contact anyone, and tells them to find the distress signal. Fox tells Slippy and the rest to cover him from Arwings. At the battle, dozens of Aparoids were found, which later dropped Aparoid Hatchers. Slippy was tailed and rescued by Fox once again, who was currently piloting a Landmaster. Slippy wondered if there were survivors in the building. Finally, after killing the rest of the Aparoids, the Aparoid Walker appeared. Slippy panicked at it's size, exclaiming that "It's huge!" He was able to download it's shield, and they eventually defeated it. They discovered that it held a Core Memory, but suddenly, Pigma came out of nowhere and stole it, forcing the team to find him.
Anglar Blitz
After the Aparoid race was destroyed in Star Fox Assault, Slippy temporarily withdrew from the Star Fox team to spend more time with his newfound love, Amanda. However, when Fox needs backup taking out the Anglar forces, Slippy is happy to come to his assistance again. He pilots the Bullfrog (ブルフロッグ), which has Plasma Lasers and high shielding, and is the only ship in the game able to carry up to three Nova Bombs, but has no lock and only two boost bars. Slippy later marries Amanda and has numerous children, inexplicably, one of which joins the new Star Fox (albiet in another ending).
In the games
Star Fox

Added by JacobbrettSlippy's debut in the Star Fox series is in Star Fox. Slippy had the ability to analyze the shield of the boss fought at the end of each planet.
Star Fox 2

Added by XSuperGamerStar Fox 2 would have been Slippy's second official appearance, but the game was canceled to make way for Star Fox's remake, Star Fox 64.
Star Fox 64

Slippy's role in Star Fox 64 is the same as it is in Star Fox. He can analyze the shield of all bosses except Andross. Slippy is the worst pilot of the team and is often chased down by enemy ships, but it is necessary to keep his ship functioning to make fighting bosses more precise. Also in Star Fox 64, Slippy's minor rivalry with Falco is shown, as the two make snide remarks about each other. It is also revealed in the game that Slippy is a rival to Andrew Oikonny, as the two target each other in the occasional dogfights. Slippy's transmission and base color is green.
Star Fox Adventures

Added by Blue NinjakoopaIn Star Fox Adventures, Slippy served the same helpful role he did in the past games. He can give advice and hints in different areas, which would help Fox find his way through riddles and mazes. In official artwork, Slippy is shown holding a screwdriver, but he doesn't use it in the game. During the events of Adventures, Slippy, Peppy, and ROB all reside in the Great Fox and aid Fox from there.
Star Fox: Assault

Added by Blue NinjakoopaSlippy appeared again in Star Fox: Assault. His part in this game is the same as before, and it is revealed that Slippy is one of the head engineers for the Star Fox team's arsenal of craft, including the Landmaster and the Arwing. The game also introduces his father, Beltino Toad, who Slippy himself is surprised to see. Slippy's rivalry with Falco seems to have mellowed out, but the two still make unnecessary comments about each other as they converse. Besides his missions in an arwing, he also once participated alongside Fox in on-foot combat at the Sargasso Space Zone, where he held his own alongside Fox in fighting off the Ruffians.
- Instruction book description - Slippy's not much of a fighter, but he's an excellent mechanical engineer. He fulfills the role of team mascot and calms frayed nerves on the battlefield.
Multiplayer
Slippy is available as a playable character in Assault's multiplayer mode. He has high Stamina (second best behind Wolf) and the best Landmaster Skill of all characters in the game, but poor speed. He also has the second best Jump, behind Peppy. His preferred weapon in Assault is the Grenade.

Star Fox Command

Added by GilgameshkunIn Star Fox Command, Slippy is still a helpful character as he was in the previous games. He now pilots his own ship, the Bullfrog, and has found a love interest of his own. In one of the games endings, Slippy forms a family with Amanda and his eldest son becomes a member of the Star Fox team under the leadership of Marcus McCloud. In a future time period, Slippy tells him numerous grandchildren of the Star Fox team's legacy.
Ending 7 - Slippy's Resolve
After Slippy and Amanda defeat the Anglars, he decides that he no longer wants to be a pilot and leaves the Star Fox team to start a family and settle down with Amanda. The two get married and have numerous children. After years, Slippy becomes old, but his visiting grandchildren love to hear him tell them stories about his adventures with his wingmates.
In the Super Smash Bros. series
Super Smash Bros. Melee
Slippy made a brief cameo in Super Smash Bros. Melee, assisting Fox in an Event Match titled respectively Slippy's Invention. He created a cloaking device for Fox and Falco to use during that event. Although Slippy is the supposed inventor of the Cloaking Device, its game listings in Trophy mode don't show that it has any relation to the Star Fox series. Slippy can also appear if the character (as either Fox or Falco) does a secret taunt (done by alternatively tapping the left and right buttons on the control pad) on the Corneria or Venom stages.
Trophy
| Type | Description |
|---|---|
| Slippy Toad | Slippy Toad is the mechanical genius behind most of the Star Fox team's new weapons and technology, and just lately he's been spending the bulk of his time in Research and Development. He's also a competent pilot, but his enthusiasm tends to outweigh his technical flight skills. He and Fox have been friends ever since their school days. |
Super Smash Bros. Brawl
Slippy also makes a cameo appearance in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. He, along with Krystal, Peppy, Panther, and Leon, with Fox, Falco and Wolf, occasionally, will make a few comments in a secret taunt (Unlike in Melee, it's done by doing the "down" taunt for a brief amount of time (about one frame)) in the Lylat Cruise stage (he can appear again in the Past Stage Corneria as well. It is done the same way as the Lylat Cruise, though; not like it was done in Melee). It is revealed in one of the messages that Slippy can relate to Leon.
Codec Conversation with Solid Snake
On the Metal Gear stage Shadow Moses Island, whenever Snake tries to gather information on Falco (the person he attempted to call was implied from the frequency to be Colonel Roy Campbell), Slippy will intercept and tell Snake about Falco instead. In this conversation, it is revealed that Slippy designed the reflector and blaster weapons Fox and Falco use in the games. This also makes Slippy the only Star Fox character, and the only character overall, to be interacted in all secret taunts.

Added by Dentomorn- Snake: This is Snake...
- Slippy: Copy, Snake! This is Slippy!
- Snake: Whaa--! Who is this? What are you, some kind of frog?!
- Slippy: Easy there, buddy! Just thought I'd hop on the wireless and give you a holler. Don't get mad!
- Snake: Hacked right into my channel, huh...
- Slippy: But I'm not there to mess nothin' up. Don't worry.
- Snake: (groans) ...
- Slippy: Just so ya know, Falco uses a Blaster and Reflector that I designed, just like Fox does. But Falco will kick his Reflector and send it flyin' around. Just showin' off, if you ask me.
- Snake: No reason a weapon can't have more than one use. In fact, I'd say it's versatility shows how well you designed it.
- Slippy: Hey, maybe so! I feel all fuzzy now! Thanks, Snake!
- Snake: Maybe next time we meet, you can design me a weapon...
Trophy description
| Type | Description |
|---|---|
| Slippy Toad | A top-notch mechanic with less- than-stellar battle skills. Respected for his talent, he joins the Star Fox team and shows his mechanical genius in everything from vehicle maintenance to weapons development. Slippy often holds the team back with his clumsiness but makes up for it with his likeable personality and morale-boosting presence. [2] |
Note: The trophy erroneously implies that he's poor at combat. While he isn't good with an Arwing, Assault reveals that he is decent at on-foot combat, and he is the one character to excel at driving a landmaster in the same game's multiplayer mode.
Physical appearance, traits, and relationships with other characters
Slippy's last name suggests that he is a species of toad, but he closely resembles a bullfrog. Slippy is shorter than the other characters, and he and Peppy appear to be "chubby", which is shown by their poor speed stat. Slippy also has blue eyes.
Slippy wears a red cap that usually has his name imprinted on it and is humorously placed in between his eye-sockets and a yellow bodysuit with different kinds of equipment including a utility belt and a watch. In games before Assault, Slippy is shown with a jacket similar to the one Fox wears and similar pants. He is the only character, along with Krystal, to keep his bodysuit from Assault (although in some cutscenes, he is seen with his other outfit). His outfit in Star Fox 64 3D is much the same as it was in the original, although he, along with Peppy, has been given black gloves similar to Fox's.
Slippy also wore a trademark bead necklace in Star Fox, Star Fox 2 and in the Nintendo Power comic, but this is absent in Star Fox 64 and subsequent games until Star Fox Command, where one of the endings shows an elderly Slippy wearing a similar necklace.
Slippy and Fox are childhood friends. The two seem to get along the most out of all other members of the Star Fox team; Fox is always prepared to help Slippy in times of grave need, as seen in Star Fox 64 when Slippy and his Arwing are knocked into Titania's atmosphere by Spyborg, in which Fox was willing to risk delay and dangerous outcome by traveling to the planet and saving Slippy using the Landmaster. In return, Slippy provides Fox (and usually other team members) with top-notch technology in the Super Smash Bros. games, like the reflector, and gives Fox valuable information in a manner similar to Peppy's when giving advice.
Falco is also a good friend of Slippy's, but the two are known to have a small rivalry, as Falco oftentimes picks on Slippy. Falco has shown disapproval of the Slippy-designed Landmaster and the Blue Marine (as seen while Fox was going through Aquas in Star Fox 64), despite using a landmaster with enhanced hovering capabilities in Super Smash Bros. Brawl . Slippy mentions to Snake in Brawl that Falco likes to "show off" his on-hand equipment, like his special reflector, which is magnetic and is kicked for a boomerang effect. In Assault, Slippy generally annoys Falco, and in Star Fox 64, the two bicker a lot, though to a lesser extent in Assault.
Although they bicker from time to time, Slippy is on good terms with both Peppy and ROB 64, as seen during the final cutscenes of Star Fox Assault where Slippy is deeply heartbroken and distraught over their sacrifices and overjoyed to see their survival. Even though he and Falco considered Peppy an "Old fart", Slippy may actually respect and admire the rabbit's seniority and superior pilot skills. With little funds avalible after the Lylat Wars, Slippy took the malfunctioning ROB's repairs into his own flippers, building a closer relationship than eight years before.
In Star Fox 64, it is shown that Slippy has a rivalry with Andrew, who was then a member of the Star Wolf team; the two target each other during dogfights, and Andrew makes remarks insulting (or stereotyping) Slippy like "Stick to the pond, froggy!".
In Brawl during one of the secret taunt conversations at the Lylat Cruise stage, Slippy tries to relate to Leon Powalski by pointing out that they are both members of the amphibian family (although Leon is, in fact, a reptile). Leon, of course, disdainfully agrees, but is later annoyed to the point where he flies away.
In Command, Slippy meets a Toad named Amanda, with whom he forms a relationship with and soon marries. In one of the endings, they have numerous children, and one of them (colored orange) joins the new Star Fox team led by Marcus McCloud.
Portrayals
Slippy is voiced by Kyouko Tonguu in the Japanese version of the series, Lyssa Browne in the English version of Star Fox 64, Chris Seavor in Star Fox Adventures and Super Smash Bros. Melee, and Mike McAuliffe in Star Fox Assault and Super Smash Bros. Brawl.
